The town of Shay Gap formed a football club and entered the De Grey Football Association in 1975.
At its peak, Shay Gap had a population of over 850 people (Ref. Wikipedia, 2014). The town was closed in February 1994.

According to Michaels Giles via facebook, “Shay Gap had the hardest ground and the hardest supporters, some very good footballers and some actually played footy.”
